EXPRESSTRAIN: Recruitment Interviewing
How much does it cost to recruit a new colleague? How much does it cost when you get it wrong? Can you really rely on the "have a chat and see if you think they'd fit in" approach? Do your interviewers know what they are looking for anyway? If they do, do they probe for real evidence that candidates have the qualities they seek?

In EXPRESSTRAIN 'Recruitment Interviewing', participants start by considering the costs of recruitment, then do a group exercise on identifying the qualities they seek in candidates. The course distinguishes between 'tangible tasks' and 'abstract attributes'; the merits of both are discussed, allowing the outputs from the group exercise to be assessed and improved. The course goes on to explain reliable ways to assess tangible tasks and abstract attributes. Legal and ethical aspects of recruitment are explained along with a checklist for a thorough interview, before candidates get a chance to try their new methods on each other in a practical.

Duration: 150 minutes. For up to 40 people. Room layout: any; chairs but not tables are needed. Equipment: A whiteboard or a flipchart at the front of the room. If your organization has a policy or process for recruitment, they can be included in the course if copies are made available in advance.
