EXPRESSTRAIN: Be a Better Boss
Many organizations conduct surveys of their staff, and many report a recurring problem:
people are not satisfied with the way they are managed. They usually like their
boss well enough, but feel they are not being developed, listened to or given
suitable guidance. Sounds familiar? Well, you can't send all your managers on a four-day
course and you can't wait and hope the problem goes away.
In EXPRESSTRAIN Be the Best Boss, participants discuss the role of the manager and ways to
motivate people. Then they are given challenging situations to consider. Having raised the problems
of managing people, solutions are presented: proven management ideas on the role of the manager,
motivation and coaching are presented in a way which cuts out the purely theoretical and aims
straight for the immediately applicable. A model for performance management is presented in
the same way: not 'what does it mean?' but 'what you must do!' Participants then apply these
ideas to their challenging situation in practical enactments and decide how to apply them to
their real work.
At the end, every participant is asked to identify the change or new technique they will use which will have the maximum payoff.
Duration: 165 minutes. For up to 40 people. Room layout: any; chairs but not tables are needed. Equipment: A whiteboard or a flipchart at the front of the room. If your organization has a policy statement on the management of people, it
can be included in the course if a copy is made available in advance.
